I know strength and conditioning isn’t the “sexy” thing to do and it’s not as fun as shooting and playing pickup – but I can tell you from personal experience, that getting stronger, faster and more explosive is the most important thing you can do this pre-season to move yourself closer to your dreams and stay injury free this basketball season!
But I know it’s the not the “easy” choice though. Most players will make the easy choice this pre-season and won’t train. They will do just enough to get by so that they can make it through pre-season and make the team. They will take the easy road. Trust me, I am a former Division 1 basketball player and I was always shocked to see how many of my teammates didn’t put the work in, in the off season.
But you aren’t that type of player. One of my favorite quotes is: “Hard Work Beats Talent, When Talent Doesn’t Work Hard.” This is 100% true! I have seen this first hand with my teammates and now with my athletes.
If you want to be like everyone else, do what everyone else does. But who wants to be like everyone else? Remember the Tom Hanks quote in a League of Its Own “It's supposed to be hard. If it were easy, everyone would do it. Hard is what makes it great.”
So put in the hard work, do more than your competition and achieve more!
I’m not saying that you’ve got to train for 4 hours every day this pre-season to get to the next level. You don’t have to sacrifice your Fall and social life. Don’t waste your time doing the “wrong” things when it comes to strength training and end up being frustrated, tired and maybe even injured. When you are doing the “right” things in your strength and conditioning program your workouts will be fun, intense and effective. This is not a “quick fix” program that will magically get you ready for the season. If you are looking for the “easy way out”, this training program is not for you. You’ve come to the wrong place.
But if you are ready to put in the effort and work needed to become the best basketball player possible, then this IS the training program for you.
